Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about training with me — how it works, what to expect, and whether we're a good fit. If your question isn't answered here, just reach out.
How do I get started?
Option 1: Jump right in.
If you're ready to go, you can sign up for Virtual Lifestyle Coaching directly from the training page. Fill out a quick intake form, and I'll have your custom program built and your app set up within 48 hours. Your first monthly video call becomes our kickoff conversation.
Option 2: Talk first.
If you'd rather have a conversation before committing — whether you're interested in virtual coaching or in-person training — just book a free consultation. We'll talk about your goals, where you're at, and figure out the right path together. Zero pressure.
A consultation is required for in-person training (limited spots), but always available for virtual if you want it.
What happens during the free consultation?
It's a conversation, not a sales pitch. We'll talk about what you want to achieve, any injuries or limitations you're working with, your schedule, and how you like to train. I'll be honest about whether I'm the right fit — and if I'm not, I'll tell you.
A consultation is required for in-person training and always available if you're considering virtual coaching and just want to talk first. Either way, it's free, it's casual, and there's zero obligation.
Who is this best suited for?
I primarily work with gay men 30+ who want to build the physique they're after while protecting their joints and long-term health. But you don't need to be in great shape to start — I work with everyone from complete beginners to guys who've been lifting for years and want smarter programming.
You're a good fit if you:
→ Want to build muscle, improve posture, or change your body composition
→ Are tired of generic programs that don't account for your body or age
→ Have nagging pain or stiffness that's limiting your training
→ Want a trainer who actually understands your goals without you having to explain yourself
→ Are ready to invest in something sustainable, not a quick fix
Do you work with people who are new to exercise?
Absolutely. In fact, starting with a focus on how you move is the best possible foundation. We'll build safe, efficient habits from day one — no shame, no ego, just smart training at a pace that works for you.
I'm over 50. Is this right for me?
Yes — I have extensive experience working with clients in the active aging space. We'll focus on maintaining joint health, improving balance, building functional strength, and keeping you feeling independent and capable. Training over 50 isn't about limitations — it's about training smarter so you can do more for longer.
What makes your approach different from a standard personal trainer?
Most trainers focus on reps and weight. I start with how your body moves. We address muscle imbalances, posture issues, and joint mechanics first — then build strength and physique on top of that foundation. The result is training that looks good, feels good, and doesn't break you down over time.
I'm also not juggling 40 clients. I keep my roster small on purpose, which means you get real attention — not a template with your name on it.
I have nagging pain (lower back, shoulders, etc.) — can you help?
That's a huge part of what I do. As a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), I help clients figure out where their movement patterns are creating problems and fix them through targeted exercise. I don't diagnose injuries, but I can often help alleviate chronic discomfort that's been holding your training back.
Where do sessions happen?
I offer three options depending on what works best for you:
→ Private studio — a focused, distraction-free space that's just us. No crowds, no waiting for equipment.
→ Your apartment gym — I come to you in the Pearl District and Slabtown area and bring any extra equipment we need.
→ Virtual — custom programming delivered through your training app, with video form reviews and monthly check-in calls. Train from anywhere.
What does "virtual coaching" actually look like?
Everything happens through your private training app. Your custom workout program, nutrition plan, and progress tracking all live there — you train on your own schedule wherever you are.
Anytime you want a form check, just send me a video through the app and I'll review it with detailed feedback. We do monthly video call check-ins (or more often if needed) to review progress, adjust programming, and make sure everything is dialed in.
All of our communication happens through the app's direct messaging — no scattered texts or lost emails. You also get access to a private LGBTQ+ community forum with other clients. You're never left guessing, and you're never doing this alone.
What's the training app? What do I get access to?
Every client — whether virtual or in-person — gets access to a private training app. It's your home base for everything:
→ Your full workout program with video demos and tracking
→ Nutrition plan and meal tracking
→ Direct messaging with me — this is where all our communication happens
→ Form-check video submissions with my feedback
→ Progress photos, measurements, and workout history
→ A private LGBTQ+ community forum where clients can connect,
share wins, and support each other
Think of it as having your coach, your program, your nutrition, and your community all in your pocket. No more juggling platforms.
What kind of results can I expect?
That depends on your goals and consistency, but most clients start noticing improvements in how they feel — less stiffness, better posture, more energy — within the first few weeks. Visible physique changes typically show up around weeks 6–8 with consistent training. I'll track your progress and adjust your program regularly so you're always moving forward.

Not sure which is right? That's exactly what the free consultation is for.
What's your availability?
I keep my client roster intentionally small, so my schedule is limited. The best way to find out what's open is to reach out directly and we'll find a time that works for both of us.
Do you offer any kind of trial?
Virtual coaching is month-to-month with no contract — you can cancel anytime. That makes the first month essentially your trial. I'll build your program, set up your app, and we'll do our first video call. If it's not the right fit, no hard feelings.
For in-person training, the free 60-minute consultation gives both of us a chance to make sure we're a good match before any commitment.
Are you LGBTQ-friendly?
I'm a gay man myself — that's not just a badge on the website. I built Fox Fitness PDX specifically because I wanted to create the training experience I wished existed when I started. I understand the pressure around body image in our community, I'm literate in LGBTQ+ health topics (PrEP, hormone therapy, etc.), and nothing you bring to our sessions will be met with judgment.
That said, everyone is welcome. You don't have to be gay or part of the LGBTQ+ community to train with me — you just have to be ready to put in the work.
Is my information kept private?
100%. I work with clients who aren't publicly out, and I take privacy seriously. I will never share anything about you — your name, your identity, your goals, your photos — without your explicit permission. This is your journey. Full stop.
I've had bad experiences at gyms. Will this feel different?
That's exactly why I do what I do. There are no crowded gyms here — we train privately, either in your space or virtually. It's just you and me, focused on your goals, at your pace. No one watching, no one judging. A lot of my clients came to me specifically because traditional gym environments didn't feel safe or comfortable, and every one of them has said this feels completely different.
